Devin The Dude
Suite 420
Release Date: 23.07.2010
Devin The Dude in my opinion can do no wrong, his newest album Suite 420 is the usual Devin the Dude business, weed, women and alcohol, never changing from his winning formula from the odd squad days in the early 90s (if it aint broke don’t fix it, many artists nowadays need to take note) showing that he is still one of the realest and most honest rappers out there. The cult Hip hop artist once again shows that he can make a great album for lovers of the smoked out style that only The Dude can pull off. The intro itself “cultural coughee” is a hilarious spoof insight into what coughee (Ganja) smokers in different corners of the world are saying about their beloved buds, all voiced by the man himself, I have listened to this intro on many occasions just to laugh to myself if I am honest.

For me the first 7 tracks are enough to satisfy my high, my favourite track on the album “Pick my brain” is a bass heavy head nodder, where Mr Copeland talks about wanting to relax, party, smoke and drink of course and find some “bitches” when he goes out, not talk about business “I don’t know how much I would charge for a verse, but I know that my dicks so hard that it hurts.” The single from the album “what I be on” is everything you’d expect for a lead single from “your rappers favourite rapper” as he has been referred to. The beat is a G funk style track only the dude could make sound this good, complete with Devin’s signature singing/rapping style and catchy chorus that makes so much sense, that’s what I love about Devin his music makes so much sense and at the same time manages to be funnier than most comedians. Track 9 and 10 are straight up Devin ballads of which track 10 really does him justice, his singing style suits the beat perfectly unlike some earlier attempts, but don’t get me wrong the Dude always pulls it off.

The first part of the album seems to contain the next batch of Devin anthems. Though the second half of the album is still tight, Track 13 feat the Coughee Brothers, another track explaining how weed isn’t as harmful as other drugs, is as always making a true statement on the use of marijuana, and track 15 is some classic Devin rhyming a highlight for me when he talks about how he’s glad his son chooses not to smoke so he doesn’t have his hands in his stash, I get the idea it would be great to be Devin’s son, he comes across a genuine cool guy in his music and videos and is the kind of guy you would like to chill and smoke a square with. This the Houston rappers 2nd release after leaving Rap a lot records is definitely one for the fans, and like the rest of his albums before has the power to convert anybody into a fan.
